Button art -- another idea I've been seeing around lately. I thought I'd give it a try and add a little variety and texture to my wall art. It was very easy and took surprisingly few buttons to accomplish.
I'm sure there are several ways to accomplish this look, but here is my mini-tutorial:
*Decide on the shape, letter, number, etc. you want to use. Just try to keep it fairly simple. I went with our last initial.
*Figure out how large the shape should be (mine was dependent on the size of the frame I had lying around).
*Create/copy/edit the shape and print it. Try to print in a color that will blend with your buttons. Alternatively, you could trace an image onto a coordinating color paper.
*Cut the shape out.
*Start laying out your buttons on top of the shape. Start by laying down the largest buttons over the widest parts of the shape, working your way down to the smallest buttons.
*Once you have everything laid out the way you like, take a photo! Then remove the buttons and use your photo to replace and hot glue the buttons back onto the shape.
*Carefully lift and position the shape onto a decorative piece of paper that has been cut to size. Use hot glue to attach.
*Stand back and admire. That's it!
Fast, cheap & easy -- just the way I like it!
