.....and "wins" a vintage tole chandelier for the not-so-low price of $98, then secretly harbors it for months, fearing her blog readers' judgment of her frivolous purchase.
When it arrived it was gold, and looked remarkably similar to Erica's. But while hers looks amazing with the original gold paint in her coral and gold nursery, mine needed a little sprucing up.

After months of sneaking around, I thought it was about time to get real and show off my splurge for the nursery. Don't judge too harshly. Sometimes emotions just get the better of me. And how stinkin' gorgeous is this fixture? If you've got to splurge, at least splurge on something lovely, right?

Since it was cold and wintery (well, Georgia cold anyway) when all this went down, I decided to forgo spray painting in our chilly garage and instead attacked it with a sponge brush and some green craft paint. Though definitely not the most orthodox nor the most efficient method, it worked surprisingly well.
For me, it makes the room. I know it's not much of a bargain -- I'm certainly not proud of the price tag --but occasionally -- when you find something you really, really love -- you just have to go for it.
Right???

right!! you did the right thing :) it looks lovely
It's beautiful! You're allowed to splurge every now and then! Especially when it's something for baby. :-)
Absolutely right! It's very pretty. :)
That chandelier makes the room! I think a nice splurge every once in a while is just fine! Enjoy!!
I love it!! The pop of green is just what the room needed! We all have to splurge every once in a while.
Lovely. Just think of it as an investment!
Definitely right on with this one. Great find, I think $98 is still a great deal on a chandy with this much character :) The green couch is fabulous by the way! ;)
Wow! that is beautiful!
I'm not judging, I'm jealous!! You know, with as much money as you save, I think you deserve to splurge. Not to mention, $98 is not all that expensive really. It's beautiful! Enjoy!
I definitely agree that it makes the room! And, I think that all of your other amazing deals more than make up for this one splurge!
Right! It makes the room, for sure.
That's Gorgeous! I say, good choice!
Splurging for baby is always okay :)
I love the green. Once in awhile, on a statement piece, it's ok!
It looks beautiful!
That is stellar. Spectacular. I'm compeletly in love with it-- and 98 bucks for a chandy isn't really what I'd call NOT a bargin, you know? Such a good eye you have!
It's so perfect!
And really $98 is probably a steal compared to what you'd pay for a new one :)
Amazing! With two babies gazing at it, divide the price in half! Now it's a steal!!
So precious!!!! Price isn't bad considering the cost of chandeliers and it's a signature piece in the room! Totally worth every penny
Yeah for splurging!!! It looks perfect... the icing on the cake for this gorgeous room!
it may not have been the thriftiest find, but it sure does make the room! what a gorgeous chandy!
No judgments! I love it!
right. period. the end. that is a beautiful piece that would make me happy each time i looked at it. def. worth it.
Beautiful! I love it! There are times when I just can't help but get something I love too despite my love of DIY and tight budgets. So, I understand! I did the same with our $500 bathroom makeover. Half of that budget was lighting!
My thoughts and prayers are with you!
you are absolutely RIGHT! way to put your money in something totally worth it! :)

Great post and definitely worth every penny. Thank you for trusting your readers and posting this. I think we all feel closer to you now and feel like you really are one of us and splurge every now and then :)
OMG... I bought the exact same light at a local Goodwill for 9.00 and gave it to my friend... lol.. it was a lime green and sort of yellow..
but exactly like this one... do you have any details ..like where did they come from .. what brand are they.. what did they sell for originally.??
BB - I am SO jealous! I have no details on the fixture -- just that it's vintage and I like it!
Gah!
Your nursery is absolute perfection. The color palette is totally unexpected ~ and totally gorgeous! I love it :)
This room looks lovely! You tole chandelier really wasn't much of a splurge, given that these can go for much more in antique stores. I know it doesn't feel like a bargain, but it was and it really makes the room.
You've got some lucky babies! :)
oh, i love the sofa. talk about the sofa, please!! was it a splurge or thrifty find? i love it... looks great.
Thanks!
Anon- the sofa was $125 (I think) from a consignment store in Illinois. It sat in our living room until we moved into our current house, where we didn't really know what to do with it. I had planned to put a rocking chair in the nursery, but then one day a light bulb went off and I remembered the green sofa that had been moved upstairs. It just happened to fit perfectly! Glad you like it too :)
I am in love with your green couch. And the painted chandelier is just the right touch.
Oh my goodness that sofa is gorgeous.
