Last week I showed you some of my inspiration for a skirted table to hide the cat food bowls and storage on our stair landing. This weekend we pulled it off:
Instead of buying a perfectly good table just to cover it up, we started from scratch. Using just a few 2x4's and a sheet of MDF, we made a very crude but sturdy table....
....which I then covered with fabric (left over from another project) using a staple gun. I covered the top first, then did corner pieces, then added the sides and front.
The width of the fabric was wider than the table was tall, so I simply folded over the top of the fabric so that the bottom edge just brushed the floor. Then I stapled underneath the fold around the top of the table so that the staples wouldn't show. The bottom edge of the fabric was finished nicely already, so there was no hemming involved in this project. Woo-hoo!
For a finishing touch, I simply hot glued some gray ribbon onto the top and front of the table.
The whole project took about two hours from start to finish and cost us next to nothing since we had all the supplies on hand except the 2x4s.
A little nicer to look at than cat food, no?

may i ask why they are fed on the landing....i saw last week your post bout this and i forgot to ask.
Looks greattt! Such an easy project!
Where do you put the cat food now? Under the table?
Gorgeous! I'm loving how simple it was.
Chris - We have a dog who would LOVE to get her paws on the cats' food, and who's not allowed upstairs without a human. It was the best place we could think of that was out of her reach!
Elisa - Yup, the cat food and storage bin is right under the table. The cats love it because it's almost like a cave under there. :)
just found your blog-love it!
