The living room

It's not finished, but only because I'll never ever be able to stop moving furniture around and painting walls and changing out pillows.  I'm in absolutely zero danger of being that lady with the shag carpet and harvest brown tweed sofas, who decorated once and was ever after stuck in that decade.  There are just too many fun fabrics and knick-knacks and rugs and sofas and paint colors to ever permanently settle on what I have at the moment.  And as a former army brat, I get itchy after living too long without change.  But - having said that - the living room is finally put together enough to make its debut here.
We spend quite a bit of time here, so I wanted it to be both cheery and calming.  If that combo is possible.
We have lots of seating (3 sofas!) in our not-huge space.  I'm not a rule follower, I'm more concerned with everyone having a comfy place to sit when they come by to hang out.
Again, not a rule follower.  Three sofas, and two different styles.  I'm pretty sure that's wrong, but I work with what I have and a very small budget.
The kids have books everywhere in this room.  You can see our stack of 19 library books in the basket above, and about 200 more are in the basket on the bottom shelf (below) and in the cabinet below it.
For some reason shortly after moving in, the kids dubbed this cabinet the Hayride, and that's been its name ever since.  Don't ask me why.
I painted and recovered my craigslist stools and I love them now!  Faux bamboo makes me so happy.
I'm not in love with our built-ins and all that stacked stone, but sometimes you've got to just be content with what you have.
The view of the room from the kitchen.
The peacock pillows were one of the last things I added in, and they really make such a huge impact.  The sofas needed some color and these bring it.
Here's a resource list of everything I can think of, but if I missed something and you want to know, just leave a comment.

P.S. Thank y'all for the sweet, encouraging comments on the last post.  I was ever so slightly nervous about hitting the "post" button on that one, but I'm so glad I did.  It's wonderful to know that I'm not alone, and encouraging to think that maybe our struggle with summer and idolizing of little ones has helped some of you.  Thank you for your kind words!
